Rally Monte Carlo Recap: Evans Takes Early Lead and Hyundai Struggles

Last year’s championship runner-up opened up a 15.1s lead in the first stages of the rally, with Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville in second, as all three of its entries suffered issues. Toyota’s Adrien Fourmaux had an impressive return, with Ott Tanak battling a throttle problem to end the loop in fourth. Evans lit up the timing screens in the opening stage of the season and then maintained his start by winning stage two. Ogier was able to climb to third as a result of Tanak’s problem and in WRC2, Skoda’s Pepe Lopez led the way.
