William Byron’s Victory and the Wreck that Sealed It”

William Byron won the NASCAR Cup season opener as Ross Chastain caused a wreck on the final lap, halting the race. Byron’s 11th career victory was locked in as the field was frozen, with Alex Bowman, Christopher Bell, Corey LaJoie, and Bubba Wallace completing the top five. Throughout the stages, Chastain and other racers led the pack, with a major wreck collecting 23 cars on Lap 192. NASCAR red flagged the race for nearly 16 minutes to clean the track of debris, with Byron taking the lead and ultimately the win on the restart after the wreck.
