Mercedes Makes Sacrifices in Qualifying for Race Strategy Success

Mercedes adjusted its car setup away from strong single-lap performance to focus on race pace during the Italian Grand Prix, with George Russell qualifying third and Lewis Hamilton ninth. Team boss Toto Wolff explained the changes aimed to be less aggressive on tires for the race, potentially sacrificing qualifying speed for better race performance. Adjustments included lifting the car slightly to avoid a repeat of last year’s plank disqualification. Hamilton also made significant changes to his setup, hoping they will pay off in the race due to tire degradation being crucial at Monza.
